5 Ways To Keep Your Home Smelling Fresh

A clean and pleasant smelling home contributes to the general well-being of every family member. Scents have ways to affect our mood and it is always nice to come home to a good smelling clean house after a busy day from work or school.  Here are five ways to achieve an awesome fresh smelling home.

Clean your house.
I know we can all agree that this is the most basic thing to do in order to have a healthy and nice smelling home. And when I say clean, I mean thorough cleaning - all rooms! Be sure to open your kitchen fan or window when cooking. When the temperature is nice, open your windows to let some fresh air in. If you have pets, be sure to regularly bathe or clean them too. Regular cleaning is the key!

Here are my suggested cleaning products:

Consider getting an air purifier or air cleaner.
Air purifiers or cleaners help purify the air in your home. They help get rid of dust, airborne allergens and bacteria in the air. They also help neutralize or remove unpleasant odors lingering in the air. Below are my recommended Air Purifiers from Amazon.

  • GermGuardian AC4825 3-in-1 Air Purifier with True HEPA Filter, UV-C Sanitizer, Captures Allergens, Smoke, Odors, Mold, Dust, Germs, Pets, Smokers, 22-Inch Germ Guardian Air Purifier
  • GermGuardian GG1000 Pluggable UV-C Sanitizer and Deodorizer, Kills Germs, Freshens Air and Reduces Odors from Pets, Smoke, Mold, Cooking and Laundry, Germ Guardian Air Purifier

Here are a few links to know more about the benefits of air purifiers.
Use air fresheners.
There are many products to choose from to make the air in your home smell amazing - room sprays, scented candles, candle warmers, potpourri, etc. You can also use essential oils with your humidifiers. Essential oils are also known to help get rid of spiders and other bugs so that is a plus. Be sure that what you are using is safe for your family and pets as there are products in the market that use harmful chemicals or ingredients. Also, some people and pets are allergic to or do not like certain scents so be considerate.

Regularly change your air filters.
Make sure your filter is properly installed and replaced regularly. Some do it every month, every other month, quarterly or every six months. I guess it's a judgement call depending how efficient the air filter you are using. It also helps if you do visual checking. You can also add a few drops of your essential oils to the filter screen if you want to make the air smell better.

Have a few indoor plants.
Plants absorb carbon dioxide and give off oxygen. With that said, they generally contribute to clean air in our surroundings. Did you also know that plants help absorb many other harmful gases found in our daily stuff we use at home?

"...including a long list of volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Benzene (found in some plastics, fabrics, pesticides and cigarette smoke) and formaldehyde (found in some cosmetics, dish detergent, fabric softener and carpet cleaner) are examples of common indoor VOCs that plants help eliminate." (Source: https://www.livescience.com/38445-indoor-plants-clean-air.html)

  2. Winter always makes my house smell "stale". I light a candle whenever I am home, but think I might look into an air purifier, too!

    1. I do light a candle once in a while but I often use a diffuser with my essential oil blends. Purifier is definitely a good one to have!
